KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian drones hit an industrial facility deep inside Russia on Saturday, and a Russian news channel reported that the target of the attack was a major state missile factory.
The operation was carried out in the republic of Udmurtia and left 11 injured, three of whom were hospitalized, as Sergei Bagin, the local Health Minister, explained on Telegram.
“One of the republic’s facilities was attacked by drones” launched by Ukraine, regional head Alexander Brechalov noted in another post on Telegram. The incident caused injuries and damage, he added without identifying the place where it occurred or offering more details.
Astra, an unofficial Russian news channel on Telegram, reported that Ukrainian drones hit the Votkinsk Machine Building Plant, a major state defense company. Astra said its information was based on an analysis of footage recorded by local residents.
Ukrainian authorities did not comment on the matter.
The Votkinsk factory, more than 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) from Ukraine, produces Iskander ballistic missiles, which are often used in Russian offensives against the country, as well as nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Other Russian news channels posted videos and photos they said came from residents of Votkinsk and showed black smoke in an industrial area and burst windows in buildings.
SHOT, another unofficial Russian Telegram channel that often cites sources in the security services, reported that residents in Votkinsk said they heard at least three explosions overnight, in addition to what they believed to be the drone of drones.
