In a fiery post, the president is warning the GOP they’ll be blamed for the shutdown and suffer a setback in next year’s midterms if they don’t trigger the “Nuclear Option!” and restart the government.
In a Truth Social warning, President Donald Trump said Republicans could also lose the White House in 2028 as the shutdown has now tied the record for the longest in U.S. history.
“The Democrats are far more likely to win the Midterms, and the next Presidential Election, if we don’t do the Termination of the Filibuster,” he wrote, saying such a “Nuclear Option” will take the handcuffs off the party, allowing Republicans to pass “Common Sense Policies.”
He hit the “Crazed Democrat Lunatics” for “blocking everything by withholding their votes.”
As it stands now, 60 votes are needed to break the impasse in the U.S. Senate.
Yet, with a 53-47 majority, Republicans could end the shutdown and pass other legislation while they hold the majority if they drop the filibuster.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been quoted as saying eliminating the filibuster is something that should be avoided “at all costs.”
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey’s office told the Herald today that buyouts of $10,000 for full-time employees and $20,000 for anyone already qualified to retire are being mulled as the federal government cuts “billions” from its budget and threatens more as the shutdown has now lasted 35 days.
“Governor Healey has taken action to protect our budget in light of President Trump’s billions of dollars in cuts to Massachusetts, including implementing hiring controls,” said Karissa Hand, spokesperson for the governor. “While President Trump continues to hurt our economy, Governor Healey is considering additional steps to protect taxpayer dollars while continuing the high level of service that the people of Massachusetts deserve.”
In his morning post, Trump added the filibuster could come back to haunt the GOP.
“FOR THREE YEARS, NOTHING WILL BE PASSED, AND REPUBLICANS WILL BE BLAMED,” he stated in all caps.
If the filibuster is dropped, he added, the Republicans will get “EVERYTHING approved, like no Congress in History.”
This is a developing story …
