The Águilas Cibaeñas beat the Gigantes del Cibao 4-3 on Tuesday, who were mathematically eliminated from the Dominican Baseball League, where there are now only three teams left in dispute for two tickets to the final series, with four days remaining to conclude the round-robin round.
Ezequiel Durán dressed as a hero by hitting an RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh inning that left the field and eliminated the Giants, in addition to giving the Eagles a valuable victory in the final stretch of the Round Robin.
In La Romana, Justin Courtney pitched five scoreless innings and the Toros del Este took advantage of an RBI hit by Onix Vega and a costly error by shortstop Erick González to score three runs in the second inning, en route to a 3-1 victory over the Leones del Esgido.
With only four dates left to play, the Lions lead with a record of 10-4, followed by the Eagles (8-6), the Bulls (8-6) and the Giants (2-12).
Santurce takes off in the Puerto Rico final
The Cangrejeros de Santurce defeated the Leones de Ponce 8-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Final Series, which defines the champion of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League of Puerto Rico.
Yohandy Morales hit a two-run RBI double to cap a five-run attack by the Cangrejeros in the second inning, which defined the course of the game. Morales drove in another run with a single in the eighth inning, to close a 3-for-5 night with a double and three RBIs.
Eduardo Rivera pitched six innings of six hits and two runs to take the victory, while the setback fell to Orlando Ortiz-Mayr, punished with five runs in just one and a third innings.
Caribes win fourth in a row and take the lead in Venezuelan round robin
The Caribes of Anzoátegui won 9-8 in a tight duel of leaders over the Cardinals of Lara, to sign their fourth consecutive victory and take the lead in the round-robin round that defines the finalists of the Venezuelan Baseball League.
Antonio Piñero hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the tie and give the Caribbean the victory. Additionally, Balbino Fuenmayor, 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs, stood out, as well as Carlos Mendoza, 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
In Maracaibo, an RBI single by Gorkys Hernández capped a rocky three-run attack in the seventh inning – which included an error by third baseman Ábrelo Castellanos – and was decisive in the 7-5 victory of the Bravos de Margarita over the Águilas del Zulia.
The Caribes lead with a 5-2 record, followed by Cardenales (4-2), Águilas (4-3), Bravos (2-4) and Navegantes del Magallanes (1-5).
